Our very own Maia von Lekow and Liz Ogumbo are set to perform in this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA). The 6-day annual festival showcases the very best of Zimbabwean, regional and international arts and culture in a comprehensive programme of theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, spoken word, craft and visual arts. HIFA brings together socially and culturally disparate groups of Zimbabweans to celebrate the healing and constructive capacity of the arts. The theme of HIFA 2012, which is in its 13th year, is ‘A show of Spirit’. About the artists:
Liz Ogumbo is what is best known as a triple threat. She is a performing artist, lyricist, fashion designer and model. Liz is currently based in Cape Town, and is promoting her debut album ‘KenSoul’. She also has a fashion label called ‘Imani’, and an international modeling agency.
Maia von Lekow is an Afro Jazz singer with a hint of the blues creates a unique and mesmerizing sound. She is well known in the Kenyan music scene, but not limited to it. Mia has performed at several African festivals and performed alongside well known artists such as James Blunt, from the UK and Freshly Ground from South Africa. Other artists set to perform include Zimbabwe’s own Oliver Mtukudzi, Tumi and the Volume from South Africa and Senegalese Mbalax blues singer, Ismael Lo.
